Board certification demonstrates a physician’s exceptional expertise in a particular specialty and/or sub-specialty of medical practice. Certification by an ABMS Member Board involves a rigorous process of testing and peer evaluation that is designed and administered by specialists in the specific area of medicine.
ABEM is one of 24 medical specialty certification boards recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties. ABEM certifies emergency physicians who meet its educational, professional standing and examination standards. ABEM certification is sought and earned by emergency physicians on a voluntary basis. ABEM is not a membership association.
Physician Assistants (PA) are educated at the Master’s degree level and must pass a rigorous certification exam administered by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) to become licensed in any state. Certification is designated by the PA-C credential after their name. To remain certified, PAs must earn 100 continuing medical education credits every two years and pass national exams every 10 years.
Most importantly, certified PAs are trusted by doctors and employers to care for the most important person in their practice, you. Read more about what PAs do here.
